  • Simpler is better

Sometimes you want to keep things simple and straightforward. Instead of accelerating progress, complications often impede it.

  • Peace of mind or comfort zone?

Life is supposed to be full of work. If possible, you should be engaged with some or the other task. Too much peace of mind may lead you to your comfort zone, which may hinder your progress.

  • Beyond time

Why does time flow? Why does not it just stop? It is strange to think about a situation in which time has stopped completely. The reason for this is that we are not accustomed to thinking beyond the time frame. But I believe there is something like this.

  • Accepting guru

You sometimes can’t see what’s ahead. And it is not your fault. Does that mean that you are less powerful? Is it not a matter of acceptance? Accepting someone to be your guru? Is it wrong to accept being a disciple of someone who has a capability which you might not have?

  • Dreams to reality

It is tough. Tough to make things happen. To manifest what you dream of. But it should be praised if we at least start the journey.

  • Our lives revolve around our fights

I do not believe there would be anyone without challenges. We all face our own set of challenges and fight our own battles to overcome them. We often believe that life begins after we finish our fights. There comes a time when we realise that these fights have defined our lives. “Oh! That was life!”

It is not always that simple. We live with prejudices.

  • Begin with one business

What if we want to start more than one business? It is a welcome move, and no one will stop you from doing so. However, please keep in mind that you must first focus on one.  Create one business before starting another.

  • Sabbaticals

It is like taking a complete break from our work. We should take these breaks to refresh ourselves. It may help to generate new ideas.

  • From compassion to self-compassion

Compassion. This word was not new to me. And I believe it is not for most of us. We know it, right? Kindness? For those who are slightly scholarly, compassion means having an understanding towards sufferings.

But recently I came to know much in detail about compassion. I was astonished to find how deep people have gone describing it. So much so that in Buddhist literature, compassion has been regarded as one and the only thing to follow in a religion.

They have terms for the various levels that can be achieved when we start practicing compassion. We can start with practicing kindness, which is something like wishing others to be free from suffering.

The level above kindness is called loving kindness, which is not only wishing others to be free from sufferings but also wishing them happiness. For the people you truly love, you want to see them happy, right? Hence the term is named loving kindness.

There’s another level that can be achieved if you can master loving kindness. When you truly wish happiness for others, you would naturally start feeling joy in their happinesses. That is being happy ourselves when we see others to be happy. This has been termed sympathetic joy in Buddhist literature.

But there’s one more level in this ladder of compassion. That is equanimity. Very few people reach this level. It is like not favouring a particular set of sufferers while practicing compassion. You are not limited to your biological family members or your close friends when you wish happiness. You see on the road down below from the balcony and try to wish happiness for those random people out there. You see them as your extended family. And it’s here that the Sanskrit literary word Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam correlates with the Buddhist philosophy. We can express compassion for the entire world. It is more difficult than it sounds.

But even more difficult is practicing self-compassion—a feeling of kindness towards ourselves. Self-love. It has been observed that people find it relatively easier to direct compassion towards others than to do the same for themselves. That’s because when you are wanting to become compassionate towards others, you don’t want to be selfish, right? But is self-love a selfish thing to do? Are we not one of the sufferers? The law applies equally to us; we cannot criticise ourselves that much; after all, we are part of this inevitable suffering.

I request my readers to think on that. It is like correcting the dysfunctionality in our minds that compassion is meant for others only. Compassion is meant for sufferers. It equally applies to all, including ourselves.

Quite hard to digest? We all need practice. Let’s begin.

  • Tweeting shweeting

Is it possible to write as spontaneously as you would tweet? And what would it bring me? A sense of calmness? A fulfilment of my desire to express myself?

  • And then he continues to change

He is constantly looking for ways to improve himself. He values his ability to change himself as his greatest asset. His life currently provides all of the evidence necessary to confirm this. He notes that things have only gotten better over time. He would identify the conflicts, or dysfunctional thoughts, in his mind, and then work to resolve them by changing his own mindset. His working style will undoubtedly produce positive results in the future; he is confident of this. He may be seen taking a long route, but it is the most solid route, he thinks.

  • Things add up over time

Why do I tend to write more about “life”? It is as if I am stuck on one topic. Then I consider writing down what my heart is saying. That is what this space is for. But it is difficult for me to become public. We tend to use mental filters. I believe I would write better if I reduced my use of these filters.

What value do I offer my readers? Is it some knowledge or news that I am presenting here? No. I do not guarantee it. But I still want an audience. What kind of audience would it be? Who would come here not to get any information but simply to read what I have written? Are there truly such people? I am grateful to everyone who has been reading me. I wish them happiness. I wish them peace of mind.

Yes, there is some value I can provide. That sense of inner peace. A desire to read. Satisfying the hunger for words. Words that can strike a chord deep within. Words that can express what the reader wishes to say.

Can I fulfil this desire? I wish I could achieve that level quickly. But there is a road out, and we must travel it to get anywhere. Sometimes you have to be patient. Things add up over time.

  • Some inventions are more important than others

Which was more important: the invention of the wheel or the invention of the lever? Penicillin or the transistor? Can’t tell, right? Well, this is a subjective question. There may be different perspectives on this.

But the fact is that we, as humans, have worked hard. We have been working hard to make our lives easier. Machinery and mechanisms. Big or small. All have contributed. We are contributing each day. Knowingly or unknowingly.

The soul of the world evolves. It moves with time. And it does take strides sometimes. That’s why we say some inventions are more important than others.

And do you know one characteristic phenomenon? After each great invention, a new era follows in the history of mankind. But still, one can’t ignore the contribution of those small steps. The not-so-great inventions directly or indirectly contribute to the important ones. And there remains no record of that. Life goes unnoticed. Many-a-times.

  • Impressions and expressions

Every now and then, thoughts emerge that leave deep impressions in our minds. Over time, the depth of our minds encourages us to manifest the same thing in the real world. It is the expression of the mind. It is not always a strong signal. However, it can sometimes be so strong that we feel compelled to act accordingly.

  • Which sensor to select for drone-based mapping of mangrove communities?

If your ultimate objective is to classify different mangrove communities, drones can be used to accomplish this. Drones are equipped with sensors, so they can create maps from above. The question at hand, however, is what kind of sensor technology is most appropriate for this use. Because the drone platform allows you to choose what can be mounted as a sensor. Using an RGB camera is among the most popular choices. Mounting a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor system is one of the alternative options. But you might think as to which sensor would be most useful to me.

A recent study found that, when compared to LiDAR, the RGB camera is relatively better at identifying mangrove communities. However, the same study recommends a combination approach using both RGB camera and LiDAR if one wishes to achieve even higher performances. It is merging data from both active and passive remote sensing.

  • Sometimes you just have to step out

Waiting for the beginning is sometimes necessary. You simply cannot declare that you have begun. You have to pack your bags. You have to ensure everything’s in place.

However, it is said that some journeys are intended to begin without any planning. Probably because they are going to be tough. You might plan ahead and never have the bravery to embark on this journey. And that is why you just have to step out.

  • Why is scale of mapping important?

Geographically tagged data is highly valuable. It possesses the potential to provide significant insights when considered in entirety. A plan view of any such data pertaining to the area of interest serves as a valuable tool for informed decision-making.

There is a catch, though. There is a cost associated with the data. There is always a medium path that must be taken. You will eventually have to give up on the pursuit of accuracy. That would be the most you would be willing to spend on the project.

Achieving precision is largely possible for a project at the local scale. For example, mapping trees using light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data and high spatial resolution satellite imagery. However, when the same level of accuracy is needed for a continental-scale tree mapping, the same technology becomes unaffordable. There, our only option would be to use medium-resolution satellite imagery. The technology available for local projects does not always allow for scaling up. Therefore, choosing the mapping scale is crucial.

  • Focus on the living part

At any given time, you can concentrate on either living or dying. Focusing on the living means being aware of how exciting your life is and being thankful for what you have. You can, on the other hand, think about things that have to do with dying, which means thinking about the illnesses that make you afraid of death. The fact is, you have the choice. You can choose what to think. It is in your control. And most of the time, we do not even notice that we could choose to think.

  • Going inside

Inside his head, a world exists. Another world. Where he talks a lot. He talks with the walls of his head. His voice echoes inside. It comes back to him. And he responds to it. Sometimes it becomes overwhelming, but he knows how to manage that. After all, he requires someone to be able to talk to.

Life doesn’t always give you all you want. It makes faces in front of you. Earless faces. You can’t make them listen to what you want to say. And thus you have to turn inside yourself. People have gone inside and never wanted to return ever after that. That’s because they enjoyed it there. They came to know their natural state.

  • Do you have control over the world outside of yourself?

The world is smart. It will never actually allow you to change it. However, this does not mean that nothing ever changes. The world changes on its own. It is just adamant about changing according to our wishes. To find yourself in a changed world, you sometimes only need to change your own perception. You can only work upon what is inside of you, not the other way around.

  • There’s always a way out

He meditates on the word ‘healing’. What is it? He asks himself. When talking of a dysfunctional state of mind or body, healing is like bringing it back to the natural state. One might wonder, “Is it really possible to heal?” Should not it be said that once the natural state is disturbed, it stays disturbed? Was he not healed many times in his life up to this point? He says yes to this question. Things looked worse at times. But there had been some kind of action that helped him get better.

Taking the time to heal is also an act of healing, he thinks. People recover with time. One may believe that he or she is going nowhere, but there is always a way out.

  • How can we reach the deepest level of happiness?

The sixty-fourth verse of the second chapter of the Gita gives us some insight into how to be happy. It states that the seeker should exercise control over the thoughts that arise in their minds while their sensory organs perform their functions. That was the simplest way I could have said it. And that, as far as I know, is the deepest secret to happiness. However, finding this is difficult and requires practice. Most people are unable to master this skill.

  • Are you overusing your survival mechanism?

We live. We die. No body is eternally present. That is how the scene is set. We try to maximize the time we are here. Our survival mechanism enables us to do so. But, do we succeed? To a certain degree. We knowingly or unknowingly eliminate many events that could have led to the end of our lives. However, overusing this mechanism by inserting extra thoughts into it is not a natural way to deal.

  • Writing in that search box may be tricky!

We do a lot of Googling. Sometimes all we need is the proper keyword. And it is not like we are unaware of that keyword. We just do not prioritize what we desire.

  • The day of your dreams

Sometimes it is the day of your dreams. On that day, you finally receive what you have been wanting for a long time. You think it was that easy? It is especially true when you wanted less and attempted to take a longer journey. But it is a huge relief when it eventually arrives.

  • Am I forcing you to view through my eyes?

I’m mostly self-centric. I want people to see through my eyes, which may become difficult for them. I just don’t want to think about them. It is however my fault. I understand that. I hope I will let my viewers view at their ease. But still, I don’t want to do it any sooner. I will improve over time.

  • First post

It is going to be a long run. A marathon. I always wanted to be straight into that. But life is not that easy. It makes you go through the turns. I won’t say finally I am here. Because, again, life’s not like that.
